The Hydrogen and Carbon Research Centre based in Leoben-Leitendorf plays a key role in research into hydrogen and carbon technologies along the entire value chain. The Centre’s primary research objective lies in the effective and sustainable use of resources, as the two elements of hydrogen and carbon are considered to be central elements of a climate-friendly industry and energy sector. The focal areas of research include the CO2-neutral production of hydrogen and solid carbon by splitting methane, the material use of biomass material flows, the refinement of carbon, e.g. for applications in agriculture, and the use of hydrogen in metallurgical processes.
