Leoben Municipal Theatre
1. Location and Contact
The Municipal Theatre can be found in the middle of the historic centre of Leoben, in a heritage-protected building of neo-classical style.
2. Venue and Programme
The Leoben Municipal Theatre is a benchmark for culturally interested people in Upper Styria and offers a varied repertoire. Every season, from autumn to spring, approx. 40 performances are given. Artists and ensembles from Austria and abroad perform in Leoben.
The performance offering ranges from classical concerts and plays through children’s and fairy-tale theatre and up to modern productions from the “Szene Leoben” and “dasneuestadttheater” series. In summer, young theatre fans can go wild participating in workshops and interactive stagings.
The detailed repertoire of the Leoben Municipal Theatre can be found in the Cultural Programme (in German) of the city of Leoben.
225th anniversary of the Municipal Theatre
In 2015, the Municipal Theatre has been celebrating its 225th anniversary. This makes the venerable Leoben Municipal Theatre the oldest continually-operating public theatre in Austria. Thanks to its manageable size with 283 seats and 108 standing-room places, it offers not only the audience but also the performers a special flair.
